Centers for Working Families

Welcome to the Centers for Working Families web page, where you can look for new jobs through the CareerBuilder database, learn if you qualify for income support programs, receive financial education and coaching, and stay informed about the latest developments in employment and financial opportunities.
These services are provided through 12 Centers for Working Families (CWF) in the Chicago area, where counselors are devoted to improving the financial bottom line for low- to moderate-income families and helping people change their financial behavior by encouraging a long-term commitment to increasing income, decreasing expenses, building credit and acquiring assets.
The CWFs, operated by community-based organizations with the help of LISC/Chicago, specialize in taking a holistic approach to people's employment and financial needs, linking job placement and career improvement with financial education and maximizing public benefits.
With support and guidance from LISC/Chicago, 12 community-based organizations launched the innovative CWFs to increase financial stability among low-income residents in neighborhoods throughout the city.
Based on a concept first conceived by the Casey Foundation, CWF helps families and individuals become more financially secure in three critical areas: employment and/or increased wages; improved financial condition; and improved access to public benefits (such as the Earned Income Tax Credit).
The CWFs provide job services and long-term case management (if needed); one-on-one financial and money management counseling; customized banking products; free tax preparation services; and state-of-the art screening for public benefits.
